The noteworthy Baroque guild houses of the Grand Place were completed In 1695, three short years after the area was bombarded by the French who destroyed everything with the exception of the beautiful Town Hall. On can clearly ascertain the level of social and cultural life in Brussels from the 17th century by the architecture, and the bright gilded saints and heroes that are immortalised on top of the houses.
