Brussels Sights, Sounds and Hotels
The noteworthy Baroque guild houses of the Grand Place were completed In 1695, three short years after the area was bombarded by the French who destroyed everything with the exception of the beautiful Town Hall. On can clearly ascertain the level of social and cultural life in Brussels from the 17th century by the architecture, and the bright gilded saints and heroes that are immortalised on top of the houses. Mainly shops, restaurants and taverns occupy the ground floors of the houses. Music and multi-coloured lights submerge the square during summer nights, and an amalgamation of markets and events take place all through the year, here in the heart of Brussels social and civic life.
Brussels Grand Place was added to the World Heritage in 1998 for the exceptional quality of the architecture and what it represents about Brussels. The superlative quality of the outstanding Brussels Hotels should get them added to the World Heritage List next!
