On a wooded hillside which you will find 5 miles northwest of Cardiff on the ruins of a medieval fort stands the enchanting Castell Coch, otherwise referred to the Red Castle. William Burges, an especially creative architect of the 19th century designed the castle for the third marquess of Bute.
